Discover the Best Beyblade X Combos between BX-01 and BX-12

The beginning of every Beyblade generation is defined by discovery.

Players experiment with the limited pool of available parts, test ideas in tournaments, and gradually uncover which combinations are truly capable of winning consistently. The Beyblade X releases from BX-01 to BX-12 represent exactly that kind of formative period—the first few months of the generation, when the foundation of the competitive scene was established.

During this era, the series-defining initial releases of Dran Sword 3-60F, Hells Scythe 4-60T, Wizard Arrow 4-80B, and Knight Shield 3-80N introduced players to the core strategic archetypes that still define Beyblade X today: attack, stamina, defense, and balance. While later releases would dramatically expand what was possible, the parts available between BX-01 and BX-12 were enough to create a surprisingly deep and competitive environment.

Perhaps the most common question in Beyblade is: “What’s the best combo?”. It is a fair question, but not one with a universal answer. Experience, mindset, shooting technique, part condition, and build quality all play critical roles in determining who wins. That said, the combo you choose is the tool that defines your strategic options. It determines how your Beyblade moves, how it is most likely to win, and what risks you are taking every time you launch.

The combinations featured in this article are our picks for the four strongest Beyblade X combos that could be built using only parts released from BX-01 to BX-12 in the Takara-Tomy Xtreme Stadium under official Beyblade Battle Base (B4) rules. They reflect what was most effective during this specific period of the generation and offer a snapshot of the earliest Beyblade X metagame.

Note that additional discoveries by players and new part molds created during reprints later on during Beyblade X’s lifespan may change what would be considered ‘best’, however this list is a representation of what we considered to be the ‘best’ during the actual period in which these products were first released.

No combo list can replace firsthand experience, but starting with proven combinations can give you a meaningful advantage and a clearer understanding of what makes certain parts so powerful. Use this guide as both a historical reference and a practical starting point. Learn what made these combos the best of the BX-01 to BX-12 era, understand their strengths and weaknesses, and use that knowledge to inform your own customization journey.

The Best Beyblade X Xtreme Stadium Combos (BX-01 to BX-12)

Attack: Dran Sword 3-60 Flat

Performance

Strengths
  1. Knockout & Bursting Power: Dran Sword 3-60 Flat is a pure, unbridled attack type. The Dran Sword Blade’s incredibly aggressive design and significant weight enables it to potentially knockout or burst anything in its path.
  2. Low Height: The 3-60 Ratchet is a relatively low height, which enables the combo to strike opposing Beyblades more often with the upper, metal portion of the Dran Sword Blade.
  3. Extreme Speed: The Flat Bit produces an extremely fast movement pattern, enabling it to easily take advantage of the Xtreme Stadium’s Xtreme Line gimmick. Doing so increases the chances of scoring the coveted 3 point Xtreme Finish.
  4. Easy to Build: Usually, making top tier Beyblade combos requires the purchase of many different products. But this combo couldn’t be easier to build: it’s the stock combo from BX-01 Starter Dran Sword 3-60F.
Weaknesses
  1. Controllability: Being an attack type, Dran Sword 3-60 Flat naturally is more challenging to control effectively. Flat plastic tips have never been easy to control, and this trend continues into Beyblade X. That being said, if there is one argument against this it’s that due to the nature of the Xtreme Line gimmick, attack types of this nature might be more accessible to new players than ever. The reason is because even with a basic launch perpendicular to the stadium floor, it is still possible to ride the Xtreme Line and then be flung into the centre of the stadium to initiate contact. In previous generations, launching in this way may have ended with you stalling around the perimeter of the stadium until you depleted most of your stamina and attack potential. However, if you’d like more control a valid alternative for this combo is to use the Taper Bit.
  2. Sometimes Too Powerful: This combo’s attack power is sometimes so strong that it will inflict hits powerful enough to cause opponents to bounce back into the stadium after entering the Over Zone or Xtreme Zone.
  3. Poor Stamina: The Dran Sword Blade and Flat Bit have basically no redeeming qualities as far as stamina are concerned. Unless you can inflict a critical hit on your opponent that depletes them of their stamina, you’ll probably lose by Spin Finish in all scenarios.

Attack: Dran Sword 3-60 Needle

Performance

Strengths
  1. Ease of Use: Unlike the variant using the Flat Bit, Dran Sword 3-60 Needle is much easier to control given the docile nature of the sharp tip on the Needle Bit.
  2. Knockout & Bursting Power: Despite the lack of movement and speed produced by the Needle Bit, the Dran Sword Blade alone is strong enough to make up for it. Especially at high spin speeds against opponents using parts like the Hells Scythe Blade which have high recoil.
  3. Low Height: The 3-60 Ratchet is a relatively low height, which enables the combo to strike opposing Beyblades more often with the upper, metal portion of the Dran Sword Blade.
  4. Low Self-KO Percentage: When using Bits with aggressive movement patterns like Taper and Flat, there is a chance for your Beyblade to miss its target and self-KO. This is particularly crushing given that typically Over Finishes are worth two points and Xtreme Finishes three points. By using Needle, you avoid almost all possibility of this outcome because it doesn’t move nearly as much. Yet, you maintain the positive upside of using an attack type with the ability to knockout or burst opponents. High-speed attack types may also knock things out too strongly, generating a “reversal” chance for the opponent where they bound off the back wall of the stadium cover and re-enter the Battle Zone. With Needle, you can benefit from hits that are just strong enough to successfully Over or Xtreme Finish your opponent because you don’t hit them quite as violently.
Weaknesses
  1. Consistency: Although this combo can produce spectacular hits seemingly out of nowhere, it can at times be inconsistent. It requires contact with the opponent to win, but if your opponent is able to effectively avoid it for an extended period, its chances of winning decrease. That said, it is conceivable that the increased movement of a worn down Needle Bit may improve its ability to make the required contact while also slightly improving the below mentioned poor balance.
  2. Poor Balance: The Needle Bit inherently carries with it poor balance which will cause it to begin tipping over sooner than other Bits. While this combo can still win when in this state, it becomes much less likely. The aim for this combo should be to win near the start of a battle when fully upright.
  3. Poor Stamina: As an attack type, the Dran Sword Blade inherently possesses poor stamina. You are unlikely to win any matches by Spin Finish, except in cases where you might inflict a critical hit on your opponent that drains their stamina. That being said, because Needle is used here over Flat or even Taper, the chances of winning by outspin are slightly higher. It also means that your opponent has to think very carefully about if they want to take the risk of launching more lightly.

Stamina: Hells Scythe 4-80 Ball

Performance

Strengths
  1. High Stamina: Hells Scythe 4-80 Ball combines the Hells Scythe Blade and Ball Bit, both of which have high stamina. Hells Scythe’s weight along with the Ball Bit’s ability to stay spin and upright for longer than other Bits have contributed to making this a mainstay in tournaments in Japan at the launch of Beyblade X. The Ball Bit also resists destabilization better than Bits like Needle, allowing it to best it in most circumstsances. The 4-80 Ratchet may offer a minute improvement in precession at the end of each battle, but there is also an argument to be made for using a 60 height Ratchet to reduce any potential chance for destabilization.
  2. Ease of Use: As a stamina combo, it doesn’t get much easier to use than this. Although experienced players may vary their launch technique in certain scenarios even with this type of combo, even inexperienced players could be successful with this combination if they have decent enough launch power.
Weaknesses
  1. Poor Defense: The Hells Scythe Blade’s design is not particularly smooth. It has a few specific contact points around its perimeter which contribute to generating massive recoil against aggressive opponents like Dran Sword or even Knight Shield in some cases. Although at times Hells Scythe can take advantage of this and “counter” the hits of opposing attack types, it typically will require it to have the safety of a wall behind it. Recoil is the one potential liability Hells Scythe suffers from. In this way, it is quite well designed because it is easy to use, but carries this type of potentially fatal flaw. That said, it is possible that its recoil may be reduced through extensive usage. Over time, the aforementioned contact points become slightly more dull and the Blade becomes slightly rounder.

Defense: Wizard Arrow 4-60 Needle

Performance

Strengths
  1. Low Recoil: The Wizard Arrow Blade has low recoil relative to other available options, enabling it to absorb hits from incoming Beyblades well.
  2. Low Height: With the 4-60 Ratchet, this combo is able to protect itself from being bursted slightly better than 80 height Ratchets, provided your opponent doesn’t get underneath you. 80 height Ratchets have a tighter lock, but are easier to strike. It’s worth experimenting with both to see what works for you.
  3. Minimal Movement: The Needle Bit doesn’t move much. This means it will typically remain docile in the middle of the stadium and is unlikely to catch the Xtreme Line and expose itself to more danger near the edge of the Over Zone or Xtreme Zone. The Needle Bit also has the ability to remain stationary in some cases even on the inclined areas of the Battle Zone, which has the potential to aid it if it happens in a ‘safe’ area far away from its opponent.
Weaknesses
  1. Light Weight: The Wizard Arrow Blade is relatively light. Despite its low recoil, extremely strong incoming hits can and will penetrate its defenses. In those cases, the only chance of survival is to hit a wall or bounce back into the stadium.
  2. Low Stamina: The Needle Bit does not have the best stamina and the same can be said for Wizard Arrow. The Needle Bit does wobble earlier than other Bits, which can be beneficial to protecting it from incoming attacks … but it also means it will stop spinning soon. Any sort of weak launching technique is risky with this combo.

Balance: Knight Shield 3-80 Taper

Performance

Strengths
  1. Anti-Attack Prowess: Thanks to the less aggressively designed Knight Shield Blade and semi-aggressive Taper Bit, this combo is able to evade or deflect opposing attacks effectively while also possessing enough stamina to outlast opposing pure attack types like Dran Sword.
  2. Surprising Attack Ability: Although it is advertised as a defense type, the Knight Shield Blade possesses a surprising level of attack power. It doesn’t match the Dran Sword Blade in this area, but it’s more than enough to knock out stamina opponents with a decent level of consistency. Although this combo may work at lower heights, the 3-80 Ratchet when lined up correctly can also assist with inflicting powerful hits on opposing Beyblades.
Weaknesses
  1. Penetrating Pure Defense Types: against stamina types with high recoil such as those using the Hells Scythe Blade, Knight Shield 3-80T has enough attack power to score a KO or burst finish. But as a balance type combo, it may lack the power required to defeat pure defense types.
  2. Below Average Stamina: If it doesn’t knockout or burst its opponent, the chances of this combo winning by outspin are slim. None of the included parts have ‘bad’ stamina, but none are ‘great’ either.
